The IoT embeds sensors and actuators in objects in the physical world, wirelessly interconnecting these objects with built-in data collection software with centralized IT data analysis systems to provide monitoring, control, surveillance, ambiance intelligence, system decision-making, and remote action control.
Many observers have stated that the Internet of Things promises to be the most disruptive technology since the advent of the World Wide Web. Projections indicate that up to 100 billion uniquely identifiable objects will be connected to the Internet by 2020 [some say a trillion devices by 2025].
